DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE RENO-TAHOE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT: All pre and post-race events will take place in Carson City, NV. Carson City is approximately 30 miles south of Reno, NV. If you fly into the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, take 395 South to Carson City. It is approximately a 30-40 minute drive. When you reach Carson City take the 395 business exit (by the hospital) onto Carson Street. Continue south on Carson Street. FYI – after the second light, Fleet Feet Sports will be on your right hand side in the Northtowne Shopping Plaza. Pass through the center of downtown (past the Nugget Casino). You’ll then pass the Nevada State Capitol building and then within a couple of blocks you’ll find the Plaza Hotel, our host hotel, on the left hand side of Carson Street. The hotel is across the street from the Carson Station Hotel and Casino. FROM THE WEST ON U.S. HIGHWAY 50 OR FROM THE SOUTH ON U.S. 395 NORTH: Follow signs for Carson City. When entering the south end of town look for Carl’s Jr., Carson Station Grill, and Red’s 395 Grill on the right. Just after Red’s, the Plaza Hotel will be on your right. FROM HOST HOTEL TO CAPITOL GROUNDS: The capitol grounds are within walking distance, only 2 1/2 blocks, from the hotel. If driving, head north on 395 business which is also Carson Street. Turn right onto 5th street. At the first light, Stewart Street, you will see a parking garage on your left. Please park in the public parking areas in the garage. Parking is free. From the parking garage use the northwest exit towards the capitol grounds which are west of the Supreme Court building and north of the Legislative Building. To walk just head north on Carson Street. After crossing 5th Street the Capitol Grounds are just north of the legislative building on your right. FROM HOTEL TO SPOONER LAKE STATE PARK (RACE START): (Approximate Driving Time: 20-30 minutes) Drive south on Carson Street (Business 395). After Casino Fandango on your right there will be an Albertsons. Just after Albertsons, stay in the right hand lane, you will see the signs for Highway 50 west to South Lake Tahoe. On U.S. Highway 50 just west of Spooner Summit you will see an exit for SR28 on your right toward Incline Village. In the morning of race day, exit onto SR28 very slowly because once you get onto 28, race parking will be immediately on your left. To enter the Spooner State Park continue on SR28 for approximately ½ mile and you will see the entrance to the park on your right. Remember that State Park access by vehicle is only allowed from 6PM on Saturday to 10AM Sunday. We have reserved a 47-passenger bus to transport you directly to Spooner Lake State Park. Your crew highly recommends that you take the bus Saturday morning to the start so they can sleep in! I f you intend to take the bus please be sure to let us know by June 30th. If you notify us after June 30th, there may not be room for you on the bus! The bus will drop runners off inside the park for runner bib# pick-up and start. Shuttles will take runners and crew from the parking areas into the park for bib# pick-up and start. FROM SPOONER STATE PARK TO MT. ROSE AID STATION: (Approximate Driving Time: 40-45 minutes) Turn right when leaving the park onto SR28 north toward Incline village. Traveling this road can be slow due to heavy tourist traffic in the summer time. About a mile past the old Ponderosa Ranch will be a traffic light. Turn right onto Country Club Drive at the light. Follow this road until it ends at SR431 (Mt. Rose Highway). You’ll see a fire station directly across the intersection. Turn right (uphill) onto SR431. Continue east (uphill). Just past the large meadow near the summit you will see a building with trailhead parking on your right hand side. You should also see the aid station (big white tent). Do not park down by the aid station. Please park just of the highway above it and walk down. There is plenty of parking up top. Remember that Mt. Rose aid station is at 8900 feet elevation, so temperatures are a little cooler during the day and a lot cooler at night! FROM HOTEL TO MT. ROSE AID STATION: (Approximate Driving Time: 60 minutes) Turn right and head north on Carson Street (Business 395). Continue north toward Reno. Just after Mission Hot Springs on your right, prepare to make a left onto SR431 (Mt. Rose Highway) at the next traffic light. Drive west (uphill) on SR431 toward North Lake Tahoe and Incline Village. FYI - there will be a Raley’s and some other eats on your right as you head up the Mt Rose Highway. When you head into the pines the road becomes very windy! This means slow driving. About 1-2 miles past the Mt Rose Ski Area you will reach the summit. At the Mt Rose summit you’ll see the first Tahoe Rim Trail trailhead (north side of the highway). Continue west approximately ½ mile to the next Tahoe Rim Trail trailhead which will be on your left. You should be able to see the aid station (big white tent) just off the road. Do not park down by the aid station. Please park just of the highway above the aid station and walk down. There is plenty of parking up top. Remember that the Mt. Rose aid station is at 8900 feet elevation, so temperatures are a little cooler during the day and a lot cooler at night!
