The Lake Tahoe Kokanee Festival 5K, 10K and Half-Marathon Trails

Normally held the first weekend in October, the Lake Tahoe Kokanee Festival Trail Runs has become the favorite, locally organized event for many Lake Tahoe runners. Both the 5K and the 10K courses begin and end at the Taylor Creek parking lot on Cathedral Road (also known as the California Snow Park at Taylor Creek). Cathedral Road is located approximately 3 1/2 miles north of the "Y" in South Lake Tahoe (1/2 mile north of the Lake Tahoe Visitor Center entrance) on Highway 89.

Both courses are predominantly dirt roads and forest trails but do include short segments on paved roads. There is a slight elevation gain as the courses work their way towards Fallen Leaf Lake. Spectacular views includes Cathedral Meadow, Mt. Tallac, Fallen Leaf Lake, remains of the historical Anita Baldwin Cabins, Taylor Creek and the fall colors of Lake Tahoe. The Half-Marathon course will be a new addition for the 1998 event and is currently in the planning stages. (Click here to see the Kokanee Trail Runs course map - .gif image size 417K)
