View of Lake Tahoe from the Rim TrailWELCOME TO LAKE TAHOE, USA
The Tahoe Mountain Milers Running Club invites and welcomes you to beautiful Lake Tahoe, USA. Mark Twain once referred to Lake Tahoe as the "Jewel of the Sierra". The area offers hundreds of miles of trail running with some of the most spectacular views on earth.

    CLUB TRAIL RUNS
In addition to a wide variety of outdoor activities, Lake Tahoe affords some of the best, and most scenic, high elevation running in the world. There are hundreds of miles of dirt roads and trails, including many within back country and wilderness areas.

One of the club's favorite activities is in offering trail running enthusiasts a variety of adventure runs through some of Lake Tahoe's beautiful forested areas and in nearby Desolation, Granite Chief, Moukelumne and Mt. Rose Wildernesses, the Meiss Back Country, or along the Tahoe Rim Trail.

If you live in the Sacramento Valley, the Reno/Carson City area, or are just visiting in the Lake Tahoe area and wish you could find a place for that long weekend run that's out of the heat and off of the pavement, then the TMMRC may have just the thing for you and your club members. Let the Tahoe Mountain Milers Running Club host you on a trail run you will never forget!

    DESOLATION WILDERNESS
Running through Lake Tahoe's Desolation Wilderness is an absolute must for the avid trail runner. "Desolation" definitely earned its name, and the scenery is incredible. Desolation Wilderness contains 63,475 acres of subalpine forests, granite peaks, and glacially formed valleys. The stark granite features mixed with over 130 alpine lakes (approximately 90 that are named) will create lifetime memories.

All visitors (including runners) must have a wilderness permit. Day users (that's us) may issue themselves wilderness permits from any of the east-side (Lake Tahoe Basin) trail heads. For west-side entry, not all trail heads have self-registration available, so permits must be obtained in person at any nearby Forest Service office. Overnight users must register at the Forest Service office or Visitor Center in South Lake Tahoe or at the Eldorado Information Center in Camino.

Runners should be prepared for numerous hazards such as high water stream crossings and sudden stormy weather which can occur at any time. You should plan to bring adequate water, energy replacement and first-aid supplies for a strenuous middle to long distance run. Always let someone know your run itinerary and estimated return time before leaving.

    THE TAHOE RIM TRAIL

    Tahoe Rim Trail Image Map
The Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT), approximately 150 miles in length, encircles the "rim" along the ridge-tops of the Lake Tahoe Basin. The TRT is moderate in difficulty with a 10% average grade. The elevations along the TRT range from 6,300 feet to 9,400 feet. The trail is frequently used by hikers, runners, mountain bikers and equestrians. The trail is marked with light-blue, triangular TRT markers. The USDA Forest Service requires permits when within the Desolation Wilderness segment of the TRT. Water is sometimes limited and may not be fit for human consumption.
