RRCA CONVENTION OVERVIEW
RUNNING THROUGH THE HISTORY OF LAKE TAHOE

Hello from beautiful Lake Tahoe!

The Tahoe Mountain Milers (Lake Tahoe, USA) and Sagebrush Stompers (Carson City, NV) Running Clubs are pleased and honored to extend our invitation to all RRCA, AARC, USATF and unaffiliated running clubs, members and individual runners and walkers from across the Nation to join us in the highly energized and informative setting of the 2004 Road Runners Club of America National Convention. We are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to host you this coming May 12-16, 2004 at Lake Tahoe, to run with you on some of the most incredibly scenic trails on earth, provide an opportunity for you to learn more about Lake Tahoe’s history, and experience many of our internationally acclaimed attractions.

Our host hotel, the Horizon Casino Resort, staffs professionals who are masters at providing first rate service, accomodations and a wide variety of on-property amenities and activities for conventions, meetings and travelers from around the world.

Our convention theme will be “Running through the History of Lake Tahoe”. Lake Tahoe is not only one of the most incredibly scenic places on earth, but is also rich in the history of the Sierra Nevada and America. From the humorous antics of Mark Twain (who will share some of these with you at the opening ceremony), to Black Bart’s hold-up of the Overland Stage at Armstrong Pass (rumour has it that he's planning another "hold up" during the 7-card stud poker run), and our City’s hosting of the 1968 Men’s Olympic Track and Field Trials on one of the nation’s first composite “Tartan” tracks, Lake Tahoe has something to offer every conventioneer.

We sincerely hope that you will come join us for the perfect runner’s vacation in the High Sierra! Better yet, why not make it a family affair! Lake Tahoe is a renowned International resort location that has something to offer every family member. Please pass this information on to all of your club members. We look forward to hosting you in “America’s All Year Playground”.

We're also working to put together a very comprehensive package for the 2004 convention which includes many sponsors and exhibitors, seminar speakers on a variety of running and fitness topics, the RRCA auction and BBQ, the annual RRCA Annual Awards Banquet, morning historical trail runs and evening social opportunities (not to mention Lake Tahoe’s world-famous night-life and entertainment). Additionally, we are working closely with TR4CK (Track Renovation 4 Community & Kids), a non-profit organization that is preparing the post-convention 5K/10K trail race designed to benefit efforts to restore the Tartan track; which is a significant part of US Olympic history.
